| Directions | Pour 1 quart of milk into a 3-quart pot. Add sugar, rice and a pinch of salt. Bring to boil; simmer slowly for 1 hour, stirring frequently. Beat egg with cornstarch and vanilla; add 1 1/2 cups milk and mix well. Add egg-milk mixture to rice mixture; stir constantly to prevent scorching. As soon as it thickens some, remove from heat and let stand 10 minutes. The last addition of milk makes this creamy. |
