| | Directions | | PIES: Blend sugar, flour, and salt with 1/4 cup cold milk; add scalded milk gradually, stirring constantly. Cook over MEDIUM heat until thick. Slowly add beaten egg yolks and cook 2 minutes longer. Remove from range and add vanilla, coconut, and butter. Pour into previously baked pie shells. Cover with meringue and bake for 15 minutes at 350°. MERINGUE: Beat egg whites with 1/4 teaspoon cream of tarter and 6 tablespoons sugar. Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. |
