Muddler

A round club-like utensil, similar to a pestle, that easily crushes fruit, seasonings and herbs in the bottom of a glass when making beverages requiring the juice or flavor of a fresh herb or fruit to enhance the taste of the drink. Made in various shapes and sizes from materials such as wood, stone, plastic, or stainless steel, a muddler is often used to make a drink referred to as a mojito. Native to Cuba, this beverage is made by crushing (with a fork, a muddler, a pestle, or a similar utensil) the mint leaves against the side of the cocktail glass, a procedure known as "muddling" if a muddler is used.
