Hi! This is Laurie from RecipeTips.com, and today I am going to show you how to properly bake a potato. Make sure that you have thoroughly washed your potatoes under cold running water to remove any dirt. The next step is to remove any blemishes from the potatoes with a utility knife or a vegetable peeler. Poke each of the potatoes a few times with the tines of a fork so that while they are baking, the steam can be released, and so that they don not explode in your oven. At this point, the potatoes are ready for the oven, but if you would like a little bit crispier skin, go ahead and brush a little bit of vegetable oil onto each potato. Preheat your oven anywhere from 350 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the potatoes directly on the rack of your oven, and let them bake. It usually takes one to one and a half hours to bake a potato. To check to see if the potatoes are done, just poke them with a fork. If it goes in easily, they are ready. For more information on potatoes, visit RecipeTips.com.
