Today I am going to show you how to steam asparagus. To begin with you want to have one bunch of fresh asparagus and you want to wash it, trim it, and cut it into one to two inch pieces. Next you want to place a small amount of water into your pan. You want just enough water to cover the bottom but when the steam basket is inserted you do not want the water to come up into the bottom of the basket. Once that is tested, go a head and keep your steam basket in the pan and add your asparagus. At this point, go a head and turn your burner on and wait for the water to come to a full boil. You will be able to tell when your water is boiling because you will be able to hear it and you will also be able to see the steam rising. Once the water comes to a full boil, go a head and cover your pan with a lid and allow to steam for 2 to 8 minutes. Start checking your asparagus after 2 minutes, especially if it is small thin asparagus. You want to go a head and steam the asparagus until it becomes crisp tender. After 2 minutes, slowly remove the lid from the pan and check you asparagus for tenderness. If it is done to your liking, remove it from the heat and it is ready to serve.
