Peppermint Candy Canes Recipe

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 3/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1 teaspoon red vegetable coloring
Combine first four ingredients, stir well, bring to boil and cook without stirring until it cracks lightly when a little is tried in cold water. Remove from heat, add peppermint. Divide into two portions; add one teaspoon red coloring to one part. Cool. Pull each part separately and twist red candy around white. Cut in 8 inch lengths and form canes. Makes 8.
