Mom's Apple cobbler 2 Recipe

  • 1 stick butter or margarine (1/2 cup stick)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/8 cup sifted self-rising flour
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 cups finely chopped apples
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Heat oven to 350°

Melt butter in 13x9x2 baking dish

Heat sugar & water until sugar melts.

Cut shortening into flour, until it is like fine crumbs.

Add: milk & stir with fork only until dough leaves side of bowl.

Turn out on lightly floured board-knead just until smooth.

Roll dough in a large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick

sprinkle with cinnamon over apples, then sprinkle apples evenly over the dough

Roll up dough like a jelly roll. Roll up and seal seam on bottom

Slice dough into 16 slices 1/2 inch thick

Melt butter in baking dish

Places slices in butter

Pour sugar syrup carefully around rolls

Bake 350° for 1 hour

Makes 8 servings
