PFEFFERNUSSE (GERMAN COOKIES) Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup lard or shortening
  • 3/4 pound brown sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup wine or rum
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamon
  • 1 cup mixed peels
  • 1 cup nuts
  • 1 each grated fresh lemon and orange peel (2 T. each)
Directions
Mix lard, brown sugar, sour cream, molasses, honey, wine, flour, soda, cloves, cinnamon, and cardamon. Add raisins, peels, nuts, grated fresh peels, all of which have been put through a meat grinder. Form small ball. Bake 10-15 minutes at 350°.
