German Chocolate Bars Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 package German chocolate cake mix
  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 14 ounces caramels (1 bag, individually wrapped)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
Container: 9- x 13-inch baking pan
Directions

  • Unwrap the caramels and melt in a saucepan on the stovetop along with 1/3 cup of the evaported milk. Set aside and cool.
  • Combine the cake mix, butter, and the other 1/3 cup of evaporated milk. Press half of this mixture into a 9- x 13-inch pan and bake at 350ºF for 6 minutes.
  • Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top, and then spread the caramel mixture over that; then top with the other half of the of cake mixture.
  • Bake at 350ºF for 15 - 18 minutes.
