Chewy Oatmeal Cookies Recipe

  • 3 cups butter or margarine (softened)
  • 3 cups packed brown sugar
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 6 cups quick cooking oats
  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar.
  • Combine flour and baking soda. Gradually add to the creamed mixture.
  • Transfer to a larger bowl and knead in the oats.
  • Shape into 1 1/2-inch balls; then roll the dough balls in sugar.
  • Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Flatten with the bottom of a glass. Bake at 350ºF for 10-12 minutes or until brown.
  • Cool the cookies on wire racks. Makes 8 dozen.
