Boston Squares Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup black molasses
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 3 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • salt (pinch)
  • 2 cups flour
Container: 10 x 15-inch baking pan
Directions
COOK
45 mins
  • Cream 2 cups sugar with shortening and molasses.
  • Add eggs until well combined.
  • Add raisins, nuts, and spices.
  • Dissolve soda and salt in hot water.
  • Add flour and water alternately, mixing well after each addition.
  • Bake in greased 10 x 15-inch pan at 350ºF degrees for 35-45 minutes.
  • Frost with cream cheese icing.
