Blend half of the cake mix (dry), butter and brown sugar. Stir in remaining cake mix and the cereal. Reserve 1 1/2 cups of the mixture. Press remaining mixture firmly in ungreased 13x9x2 inch pan.
Stir the preserves with a fork to soften, spread over crumbly mixture in pan. Sprinkle reserved mixture over preserves. Pat gently into preserves.
Bake 25-30 minutes or until light brown. Cool slightly, run a knife around edges to loosen sides. Cool completely.
VARIATION: Substitute devils food cake mix for the yellow cake mix and decrease brown sugar to 1/4 cup. You could use apricot preserves.
