Ingredients
  • 8 slices bacon
  • 2 onions, sliced thinly
  • 12 slices white bread, cubed (remove crust, if you wish)
  • 1/2 pound Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 8 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
Directions
Cook bacon, crisp. Remove from pan and crumble.

Cook onion in some of the bacon drippings until soft.

Spread half the bread in a 9x13 dish. Sprinkle with half the bacon, half the onion and half the cheese. Repeat layers.

Combine eggs, milk, salt and pepper. Pour egg mixture over the top layer in dish. Chill overnight.

Bake at 325° for about 1 hour until set and puffed.

**NOTE: For 4 to 5 servings, reduce by half and bake in 8 inch square pan.

"My family has been making this for years. I only make it a couple times a year (for early in the day family gatherings). A side note, the bacon can be replaced with lean ham and it just as yummy, and for my hubby I add a little onion powder to his side because he does not like the texture of onions. (Yeah, I know, but like I said only a couple times a year.)"
