Directions
Sift together flour, salt and baking powder and 2 tablespoons sugar in a large bowl.
Cut in butter with fork or pastry blender until it resembles small pebbles.
Mix in egg and 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons cream.
Stir in any combination of ingredients you want. I used 1/2 cup craisins and 1/2 cup white chocolate chips.
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and knead lightly. Pat into a 9" circle and about 1/2" thickness.
Cut into 12 wedges. Place on baking sheet (not greased).
Separate, brush tops with a little cream. Sprinkle with remaining 2 tablespoons sugar.
Bake 15 minutes or until light brown.
Serve warm.

Squash Scones
The earthy flavor of squash gives these light and flaky scones a distinctive taste that goes so well with a number of savory accompaniments. Enjoy them with coffee or tea as a delicious alternative to sweet scones or serve them with an autumn harvest supper instead of the usual bread, rolls, or biscuits.
Lemon Scones with Mixed Fruit Topping
Bursting with lemon flavor, this scone recipe features a buttermilk and cinnamon batter that complements the citrus taste. The scones are even better when topped with a sweet mixed berry compote and a dollop of whipped cream.
Basic Scones
Scones are, in essence, rich, flaky biscuits and there are many different versions. This one is easy and can, once learned, be varied as you wish. For best results, follow a few basic rules: have the butter cold, the oven hot, and don't overmix the dough once the liquid is added. And if the first attempt isn't picture perfect, it will still taste good. Practice makes perfect!
Currant and Raisin Scones
A delicious, not-too-sweet change for breakfast or brunch.
Savory Cheese and Bacon Scones
While most scone recipes are prepared as an accompaniment for afternoon tea or coffee, this savory variation, flavored with cheese and bacon, makes an excellent breakfast dish for people on the go.
