White Yeast Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup scalded milk
  • 1 cup water (lukewarm)
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons Salt
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 8 cups flour
Directions
Mix yeast, sugar and warm water in small bowl, set aside and let rest about 10 minutes. Put milk on to scald. Let it cool down and put the butter in milk to melt it.

In a large mixing bowl, add 3 cups flour, salt, and sugar. Add milk, water, yeast, and egg. Continue to add flour until it no longer sticks to bowl.

Let rise until it doubles in size. Punch down and knead into 2 loaves. Let the loaves rise again until they double in size. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 375 degrees and bake and additional 25 minutes.
