SULTANA SCONES (GOLDEN RAISIN) Recipe

Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • salt
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup golden raisins
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
Directions
Sift dry ingredients; cut in butter. Add sugar and raisins; mix to a soft dough with egg and milk. Knead lightly on a floured surface. Roll out to about 1/2 inch thickness. If using a 2-inch diameter cutter, this makes about 24 scones. Place on floured baking sheets and brush top with beaten egg or milk. Bake at 475° for 10-12 minutes.
