White Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 pint water
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup lard or butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 pts. occident flour
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon flour
Directions
In a large bowl, mix 1 pint water, 1/3 cup sugar, lard and salt. In a small bowl, mix 1/2 cup warm water, yeast, 1 teaspoon sugar and 1 teaspoon flour. Let rise a little and mix it together with the ingredients in the large bowl. Add flour. (It might take more or less.) Let rise until twice it's size and knead. Then let it rise again and knead. Put in greased bread pans, let it rise again and bake on the lowest rack at 350° until top is golden brown.
