Corn Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 1/3 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 1/3 cups corn meal
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons shortening, melted

  • Preheat oven to 375ºF. Generously coat baking pan with cooking spray. Preheat baking pan in the oven while you are preparing ingredients.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat egg, milk and vinegar. Once those ingredients are well blended, add remaining ingredients and beat together with spoon until combined.
  • Pour into prepared pan and bake about 25 to 30 minutes. Best when served hot and fresh.
Simple, and a delicious accompaniment to many dishes like chili. Leftover corn bread, with applesauce, makes good breakfast fare.
