Zesty Root beer (24 hour or yeast type) Recipe

  • 1/3 bottle root beer extract
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dry yeast, dissolved inch 1 cup warm water
Activate yeast in water. Mix sugar and extract in 1/2 gal. lukewarm water in a 1 gal. glass bottle. Shake to dissolve sugar. Add yeast and shake lightly to mix. Fill bottle to within 1 inch from top with lukewarm water and cap. Keep at room temperature for 5 hours to overnight (8 hours). Put in a safe place away from children. If the bottle makes it though the first 5 - 8 hours, place in refrigerator and cool for 12 to 18 hours before tasting. Yield: 1 gallon. Serves about 16.
