Molasses Cookies Recipe

A crisp, textured cookie with a delicious ginger flavor.
Directions
  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly grease baking sheet.
  • In a large bowl, blend together sugar and shortening until creamy and light yellow in color. Add eggs, blend well. Stir in molasses. Add all dry ingredients. Dough will be stiff.
  • Roll dough into 1 inch balls and dip into granulated sugar. Place dough balls (sugar side up) on prepared cookie sheet, 2" apart.
  • Bake 12-15 minutes. Remove from oven and cool for 1 minute. Remove cookies and place on wire rack. Cookies should be stored in a tightly covered container.

- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 cups shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 2 teaspoons cloves
- 1 teaspoon ginger
- 4 teaspoons baking soda
- 4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for dipping)
