FRENCH APPLE PIE Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 9-inch pie crust
  • 6 cups Granny Smith apples, pared and sliced
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup +2 T. butter or margarine
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
Directions
Prepare or purchase a single pie crust for a 9" pie pan. Fill with alternating layers of 6 large or 1 1/2 lb. apples & a mixture of 1 C. sugar & 1/2 tsp. cinnamon. Sprinkle with lemon juice & dot with 2 T. butter. Mix together flour, salt, 1/4 C. sugar & brown sugar. Cut in 1/2 C. butter using a pastry cutter or two knives. Sprinkle the crumb mixture over the top & bake at 450F for 10 min.; reduce oven heat to 375F & bake for another 40-50 minutes.
