Tender Swiss Steak Recipe

Round steak can be a tough piece of meat but when cooked long and slow with the tomato sauce and onion, it is tender and full of flavor. Serve this with rice or noodles.

Ingredients
  • 2 pounds round steak, cut into serving pieces
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 can tomato sauce (15 ounce can)
  • 1 can tomato paste (6 ounce can)
  • 15 ounces water
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 cloves garlic
Directions
Sprinkle meat with salt and pepper. Roll in flour, shaking off excess. Brown both sides in a pan over medium-high heat.

Place into sprayed baking dish. Add onion slices, tomato sauce, tomato paste and water. Add bay leaf and garlic.

Cover and bake 1 1/2 hours at 350° or until tender.

Remove bay leaf and garlic before serving.
