Quarter chicken and place in a large pot. Slice sausage in 1/2 inch slices. In large pot add chicken, sausage, onion, butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, seasoned salt, bay leaves, and 8 cups of water. Bring pot to boil, cover, and continue to cook on low boil for 40 minutes. Remove chicken and let cool slightly, enough to debone chicken. Add rice to remaining liquid in pot and stir. Bring to boil and boil for 10 minutes, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for another 10 minutes or until rice is done. Remove bay leaves from rice and return chicken to pot and stir together.
