The chile oil in chile peppers, such as jalapeno peppers, can cause severe irritation. Your hands are exposed to this oil when you are
preparing the chile peppers. If you touch other part of your body, especially sensitive areas like your eyes, nose, and lips, it may be transferred and cause severe irritation. Be sure to wash your hands immediately after exposure. It is best to wear rubber gloves when handling chile peppers to protect against exposure. If your hands begin to burn from handling the peppers without protection, rub them with vinegar or alcohol to help stop the burning.
