Cream Cheese Frosting

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine - softened
  • 8 oz. package of cream cheese - softened
  • 3 1/2 - 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoons vanilla
  • Allow cream cheese and butter to set out at room temperature to soften or soften in the microwave. If softening in the microwave, cook them only until they begin to soften. If they are softened too much and begin to melt, it can affect the consistency of the frosting.
  • Combine the cream cheese and butter in a mixing bowl and beat until well blended.
  • Add in the powdered sugar and vanilla and beat until creamy smooth.

  • If the consistency of the cream cheese frosting is too thin, add a little more powdered sugar, starting with one or two tablespoons at a time until it is the desired consistency.

  • This cream cheese frosting can be used for frosting cakes, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, and bars. It can also be use as a filling for layered cakes.
  • The recipe above is enough frosting to frost a layered cake on the sides and top, plus to use as the filling between the layers.
