Manhattan Clam Chowder
A variety of Clam Chowder that is made from a water and milk-based stock. Similar to other Chowders, this type of Clam Chowder is always made with tomatoes. Additional vegetables such as corn, carrots, celery, bell peppers, potatoes, onions, herbs, and seasonings are combined with bits of clam, possibly some bacon and a minor amount of spices. Manhattan Clam Chowder has an reddish-amber color that is enhanced with the colors of the tomatoes. The ingredients create a very rich and flavorful soup that has been popular in the U.S. for many years.
