Oven Cooking Bag

A cooking bag manufactured with heat tempered plastic enabling it to withstand the high temperatures of an oven. The Oven Bag is designed to hold a variety of foods as they cook, providing a moist heat cooking method when oven roasting. The Oven or Roasting Rag can be used to cook a variety of foods, but is most often used for cooking large cuts of meat, such as turkey, chicken, ham, pork roasts, and beef roasts. The Oven Bag provides a more even cooking method allowing the heat to circulate within the bag which will generally shorten the cooking time.

When using an Oven Cooking Bag, flour is first added to the bag and shaken around the inner walls to coat the inside of the bag. The Bag is laid in a roasting pan or oven dish, such as a short-walled pan, 2 inches in depth. The food to be cooked is then placed in the bag and the bag is sealed shut with a nylon tie. Six to eight small slits, approximately 1/2 inch long are manually cut in the top of the bag to allow steam to escape. The flour and slits on the top of the Oven Bag prevent the bag from bursting as the food bakes. When placing the food and Bag in the oven, make sure there is enough room within the oven to allow the bag to expand without touching oven heating coils as it puffs up with warm air. When finished cooking, slit the bag lengthwise and remove the food, being careful not to allow the heat and steam to come in close contact with exposed skin.

Depending on the manufacturer recommendations, some Oven Cooking Bags can be used in roaster or microwave ovens. In addition to Oven Bags, Cooking Bags designed for slow cooker ovens are also available. Be sure to read all instructions included with the Cooking Bags before using.
