A sweet pepper that has been heated, sautéed in a pan or commercially roasted, for use as an ingredient for a food dish. Peppers can be roasted fresh or purchased canned that are pre-roasted, ready to serve. The canned varieties are available as whole or sections of peppers. Roasted pepper sauce is also available, which consists of peppers that have been pureed to provide a topping or ingredient that can be spread easily. Roasting peppers provides an added flavor that is used to enhance salads, pasta dishes, meat dishes, casseroles, and other types of food dishes.
