The units that are used to indicate length, area, volume, mass, and temperature. Different measuring systems are used in various parts of the world however, three most common systems are United States units of measure, British or Imperial units of measure, and the Metric System, which is used by the majority of the world. Conversion charts are readily available and accessible to allow for the converting of one measure to another for use in recipes.

The United States and British units of measure for liquid ingredients use liquid measures, such as teaspoons, tablespoons, fluid ounces, cups, pints, quarts, gallons, and gills. The Metric units of measure use millimeter and liter for liquid measures. United States and British units of measure for dry ingredients use dry measures, such as teaspoon, tablespoon, cups, ounces, and pounds. Grams are used as the Metric units of measure for dry measures.
