Scald milk and add 1 Tbsp sugar. Dissolve yeast with 1/2 cup lukewarm water and add 1 tsp sugar. Add both mixtures together and add flour, beating well. Let rise for 1 hour in a warm place. In a saucepan, mix eggs with salt, sugar, poppyseed, and milk, cook and let cool. Add butter; then add to bread dough, mixing well. Then let rise again. In a separate saucepan, mix poppyseed, sugar, milk, and 1 egg beaten with 1 Tbsp of flour. Cook, stirring constantly, until thick. Remove and cool. Take 1/2 of bread dough and roll out. Place 1/2 of cooled poppyseed mixture on dough. Roll dough up as you would cinnamon rolls; place in a greased bread pan and let rise 3 times its size, in a warm place. Do the same thing with the other half of bread. Mix 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup butter and 2 tsp cinnamon and spread half on top of each loaf. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. |
