Southern-Style Spicy Fried Shrimp - Recipe

Directions
  • Peel and devein the shrimp; set aside.
  • Heat the cooking oil to 375 degrees F.
  • While the oil is heating, combine the hot sauce, milk, and buttermilk in a bowl; stir until well mixed.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, salt, and pepper; gently stir to combine evenly.
  • Dredge the prepared shrimp in the flour mixture. Shake off excess and then dip in the milk mixture; then dredge in the flour mixture again.
  • Place coated shrimp in the heated oil. Do not overcrowd the shrimp when cooking. Fry in small batches.
  • When shrimp are nicely browned, remove from oil and place on a paper towel lined platter to drain the excess oil.
  • Serve these southern style fried shrimp with a simple side, such as sweet potato fries or your favorite rice dish.
