Beat egg yolks, add sugar; beat. Combine cornstarch, salt, pineapple, water/juice to equal 3/4 cup in heavy saucepan. Cook until it thickens. Add butter and put in baked pie shell. You can make a meringue topping with three egg whites/sugar or serve with Cool Whip.
