Cinnamon and nutmeg add a special flavor to these Belgian waffles.
Directions
  • Combine the water and 2 tsp. of sugar in a large bowl. Add the yeast and stir until dissolved. Let mixture stand for 5 minutes before adding other ingredients. Then, add the rest of the ingredients, except for the egg whites. Mix with an electric mixer until batter is smooth.
  • Cover the batter and allow it to rest in a warm location for approximately a half hour.
  • After the batter sits, beat the egg whites until stiff and then carefully fold into the batter. Pour batter into a medium hot waffle iron and bake for 4 to 5 minutes. Waffles should be golden brown in color.
  • Spread with butter, if desired, and top with fresh fruit or fruit sauce and whipped cream. Also delicious topped with syrup.
