Warm Glossary Term
A descriptor of a wine that possesses a high alcohol flavor, but is pleasantly balanced by desirable qualities.
Watery Glossary Term
A descriptor of wine. See “thin”.
Weeper Glossary Term
A term used to describe a wine that has a leak in the cork or capsule.
Weighty Glossary Term
A descriptor of a well structured wine with a hint of excessive taste.
Weissburgunder Glossary Term
Most notably known as "Pinot Blanc". A grape varietal, used in the production of white wine, originating in the Alsace region of France.
Weisser Klevner Glossary Term
Most notably known as "Pinot Blanc". A grape varietal, used in the production of white wine, originating in the Alsace region of France.
Weisser Riesling Glossary Term
Most notably known as "Riesling". A grape varietal used in the production of white wine and is used as a blending agent in the production of Ice Wine in Canada.
Well Balanced Glossary Term
A descriptor of wine with proportionate taste and aroma elements.
White Bordeaux Glossary Term
Pronounced bore-DOUGH. A regional white wine produced in the Bordeaux region of France.
White Burgundy Glossary Term
A regional white wine produced in the Burgundy region of France. True White Burgundy is Chardonnay varietal based and have no connection to cheap jug wines that have adopted the name for their labels.
White Pinot Glossary Term
Most notably known as "Chenin Blanc". Pronounced Shay-naN-BlaN. A grape varietal, used in the production of white wine, originating in the Loire region of France.
White Zinfandel Glossary Term
Pronounced white zin-fan-dell. Contrary to what the name suggests, white zinfandel is a rosé (or blush), wine rather than a white wine.
Wine Glossary Term
An alcoholic beverage made from the fermented juice of fruits and vegetables. Grapes account for the largest segment of wine making.

The tasting of wine with the purpose of analyzing the quality of the wine. The serious wine taster follows strict guidelines in terms of proper equipment (white table cloths, decanters, etc.
Wine Thief Glossary Term
A clear glass or plastic tube with a narrowed opening at either end, is used for sampling of wines in storage vessels.
Woody Glossary Term
A descriptor of wine that has been aged too long in a wooden container and has absorbed numerous and undesirable wood flavors, not just the typical “oaky” characteristic.
