Onion flavored and cream-based, this type of soup is most often used to make creamy sauces that are served with cooked meats or the soup is used to flavor casseroles and hotdishes. Typically, Cream of Onion Soup is made with milk, bits of onion, onion flavorings, and at times, sauterne wine. It is a good soup to use as a base for a variety of onion flavored sauces that can be added to browned pork and poultry or for serving over rice and potatoes. Cream of Onion soup is also an ingredient used to make dips for snacks.
