Often placed in poultry as it is processed, this device is made to advise the consumer preparing the food when the item is finished cooking. Since turkey is the most common food item that uses a Timer it is most readily available referred to as a Turkey Timer and can be purchased in food and kitchen stores. The Turkey Timer is built with a pop-up extension that comes out of the probe inserted into the meat. As the ultimate and safe cooking temperature is achieved, the pop-up moves up and out of the probe to indicate the food is finished cooking.
