An Italian ice cream dessert. The dessert consists of a layer of ice cream topped with a sweetened whipped cream flavored with rum. Toasted nuts and candied fruits are added to the whipped cream. Once the whipped cream has been spread evenly over the first layer of ice cream, it is topped with a second layer of ice cream. The layers of ice cream are often different flavors and are occasionally mixed with whipped cream or egg whites before it is spooned into a mold. Spumoni is cut into slices for serving.
