A long narrow chile pepper that is native to China, Japan and also common in regions of Mexico. Translated, the word Japónes means "Japanese" in Spanish to denote an Asian variety of pepper. Maturing from green to dark red in color, this small, pointed chile pepper grows to a length of 2 to 3 inches. It is very hot flavored, providing a spicy heat to sauces, salsas, marinades, stews, casseroles, and meat dishes. The Japones pepper is also known as the Japanese or Japan pepper and is very similar to a de arbol pepper.
