Kolache

A small pastry native to Czechoslovakia and Poland made with bread dough and sweet or savory fillings. The kolache dough is sweetened as it is prepared, formed into a round pastry with an indented center, and filled in the center with a variety of ingredients such as fruit, fruit sauces, fruit spreads, jams, jellies, poppy seeds, cream fillings, nuts, cottage cheese, meat, cheese, or vegetables. It is common to serve this pastry as a breakfast pastry, a sweet snack, or a dessert. The kolache may also be referred to as a kolachke or a kolacky.
