A minor red grape varietal, it is one of the 13 grape varietals permitted in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines produced in the Rhône region of France. Believed to be a clone of the Mondeuse varietal of the Savoie region of France. Virtually distinct, among the only domaines that continue to include the varietal in their red blends are Château de Beaucastel and Château Rayas.

Characteristics: Pale in color, most often used as a blending agent and possesses a unique floral bouquet.
