A grill basket is used when grilling delicate foods, such as fish and small pieces of meat, fruit and vegetables that cannot be skewered. The food is help tightly between hinged wire panels, keeping the food from falling apart as it is grilled. The basket is placed on the grill grate and when one side is done the basket is flipped over so the second side can be grilled. The basket has a handle attached that is used to turn the food. There are several types of baskets available for cooking different foods. There are standard baskets, drum-shaped baskets, fish baskets (available in several shapes), and kebob baskets. Long handled wire baskets are the perfect tool when cooking directly over an open fire.
