A green onion that has been harvested during the early stages of growth when it is smaller in diameter, pear-shaped, and long stemmed. In Britian the onion is typically referred to as a spring onion, while other countries often call it a green onion. The spring onion is served in soups, salads, stir-fry dishes, on kebabs, and in vegetable dishes.
