A metal strainer or polymesh basket, containing tiny holes, used to hold tea leaves, herbs and/or spices. The strainer or basket is placed over a cup or a pot and boiling water is poured over the basket containing the ingredients to make tea or to flavor sauces and stocks. When the flavoring process is finished the basket is removed. While this utensil may be referred to as a tea basket or a brew basket, similar devices are also available for brewing such as an infusion ball or a tea ball.
