A traditional hard flatbread from Holland that is toasted, round in shape, flat-surfaced, and crispy. This toast is typically made from a variety of ingredients such as wheat flour, glucose syrup, yeast, sugar, vegetable fat, and free-range eggs, which are mixed together and baked, forming a closed-crumb that is crispy throughout and melts in the mouth when eaten. The toast is not seasoned with flavors, but has a slightly butter taste. Holland toast, which is available in either regular or whole wheat, is used for appetizers, as a toast for onion soup, or as a toast that can be topped with fruits, eggs, or other types of foods and food toppings.
