Another name for powdered sugar, which is basically sugar that has been pulverized into very fine granules. It is most often used as an ingredient in icing and for sprinkling on baked goods for decoration. Some manufacturers add corn starch to the sugar to prevent it from caking together. It can be stored in airtight containers for and indefinite period of time. Also known as icing sugar in Britain and sucre glace in France.
