A pasta variety that is shaped like a butterfly or bow tie. It is often used in pasta dishes that are baked such as a casserole. A smaller version of farfalle pasta is called farfalline and another name for farfalle that is often used is bow tie pasta. Other types of pasta that may be substituted for farfalle include conchiglie, fusilli, or radiatori.
