A hybrid of the raspberry and blackberry which looks like a long dark red raspberry but has a sharper tart flavor. They are generally available during the early to midsummer. When selecting loganberries, look for unbruised berries that are rich in color, slightly soft and have a sweet and pleasant scent. Do not wash before storing in the refrigerator. To store for a few days in the refrigerator, place in a single layer, loosely covered on a tray lined with paper towels. To clean when you are ready to use, put fresh berries into a bowl of cold water, gently swirl, remove from water and spread out on a paper towel and pat dry.
