A seasoning that contains no sodium or small amounts of sodium and replaces regular salt for anyone with health concerns when flavoring foods. Salt Substitutes are available that have a taste and texture that is the same as Salt or they are available in a form that is a mixture of various ingredients that provide a somewhat salty flavor. Potassium chloride is often mixed with a small amount of cream of tartar to create a Salt Substitute that is very similar to Salt. Or, seasonings that use many different ingredients which may include any or all of the following: citrus peel, onion, celery, white pepper, cayenne pepper, dill, basil, summer savory, cumin, cloves, thyme, paprika, tumeric, coriander, safflower, and potassium. Each type of Salt Substitute will attempt to provide a a flavoring as close to the flavor of Salt as possible. However, since each person has a different taste sensitivity to various flavors, some Salt Substitutes may provide varying degees of acceptance as a replacement product.
