Uniq Fruit

A hybrid citrus fruit of grapefruit, tangerine and orange that grows in tropical regions. As it matures, the outer skin is easy to peel, becoming thick and wrinkled, displaying an orangish-yellow, yellowish-red, or green color, depending on the variety. The inner flesh is pink to orange in color and mildly acidic. The flavor of the Uniq Fruit resembles both a grapefruit and a mandarin orange but is sweeter than grapefruit. Ovoid in shape, the Uniq Fruit grows to an average diameter of 3 to 7 inches, but can grow much larger. The Uniq fruit can be eaten out-of-hand, served in salads or squeezed for the juice which can be used in cooking. Common in Florida and Jamaica, Uniq Fruit is harvested from October to December. It is wise to prepare the fruit as soon as possible since it becomes bitter after a short period of time. Uniq Fruit may also be referred to as an UgliĀ® fruit which is a registered tradename for this product.
