A large cloth made from a heavier weight cotton material that is used for rolling out pastry dough with a rolling pin. Flour is rubbed into and onto the surface of the cloth as well as the rolling pin, coating the surfaces so they will become non-sticking for the various types of dough. Thinner rolled doughts for fine crusted pastries, pies, or noodles require working with materials that provide a non-stick surface so the dough can be rolled effectively into a finer texture. Thus, a pastry cloth works well to roll out all types of doughs for a variety of purposes.

To clean a pastry cloth, simply shake out or wipe off excess flour and place the cloth in a plastic bag for storage. If washing is necessary, use a mild soap and handwash the cloth, allowing it to air dry before storing.
